March 2017 DG Newsletter
The Rotary theme for March is “Water and Sanitation”

Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people,
especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier
and more productive lives. However, at least 3,000 children die
each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what
motivates our members to build wells, install rainwater
harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure.

THE POWER OF CLEAN WATER

Rotary makes amazing things happen, like:
  • Strengthening the ability of communities to develop, fund, and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems.
  • Provide equitable community access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene.
  • Support programs that enhance communities’ awareness of the benefits of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
  • Support career-minded professionals’ studies related to water and sanitation.
  • Create tools and resources that facilitate, measure, and enhance high-quality water and sanitation projects worldwide.
$24.00 is all it takes to provide one person with safe water.
23 million people now have safe water because of Rotary.
21 million people have access to sanitation and hygiene thanks to Rotary projects.

2030 is the year Rotary hopes to finish providing everyone with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene!
Last weekend I had the pleasure of hearing Zone Assistant Rotary Coordinator Denis Boyd speak on Membership. His message was the most important people in Rotary are the Rotarians. We forget communication is about listening to the other person, In order for Rotary to change we have to listen to the needs of our members.
As mentioned last month, more on the club that doubled its membership.
One of their deciding factors to change was to keep an open mind. Through their strategic plan they moved from 4 meetings a month to 2 meetings a month. The extra time allowed more involvement in the community increasing the clubs public profile. With more involvement in the community the club was able to get more local projects going. It was an indirect way to market Rotary.
As R.I. President John said, we do not need more people joining Rotary, we need more people in Rotary who believe in making a difference and changing the world.
Management of the district website is being done by Duane Hayunga, a huge thank for that. Please check it out and see the changes.
The web site has the ability to display advertising that we deserve for Rotary members. The cost is $150.00 per year. Anyone interested please contact Duane at dhayunga@sasktel.net
